In conclude, by researching into the cotton industry and the Industrial Revolution I have been able to gain insight on the kinds of locations best suited for cotton factories, conventions and methods used for manufacturing, evolutionary processes of machines used within the industry and also working/living conditions. With regards to the site I am now able to see why the Lumsdale valley was initially chosen for the purpose of manufacturing through the use of mills. Based on the research into the difficult working conditions I would like to recreate that particular character within my design. By doing this I will be able to convey historical links through contemporary methods of design. In particular, one of my ideas would be to create a space which is quite confined and includes varying low levels in ceiling heights; to recreate the a similar effect of discomfort the children had to go through when working in cotton factories.
